Fashion Finds | Fall Transition Pieces | Old Navy

Every few seasons a retailer just nails it with their collection, and that was most definitely the case when I popped into Old Navy earlier this week! I had seen this cardigan making several appearances on Instagram lately, and decided to check it out. As you know the great cardigan search of 2017 continues because I failed at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

The selection was really terrific – it was great to see that Old Navy had gotten their early fall collection in stock before Labor Day weekend. (No one wants to set out on a fall shopping mission only to find sad racks of summer clearance rejects.) There were quite a few pieces that I recommend for the 30+ women looking to enhance her existing wardrobe on a budget. You really only need a few key items in order to utilize your summer favorites well into fall.

Cardigans

So, priorities. This cardigan was exactly what I hoped. I kid you not, I almost bought every color. (But Labor Day Sales start soon, and I am nothing if not frugal.) It isn’t identical, but very similar to the BP Cardigan at Nordstrom. This one comes in 6 colors and is still available in all sizes. They run true to size.

Maxi or duster cardigans are also on trend right now. This Open-Front Super-Long Sweater caught my eye. It is my duty to buy at least one of these 90’s throwback pieces. The color options are more limited, but it drapes really nicely and it a bit roomier than the Open-Front Long-Line Sweater.

If you prefer a more classic cardigan with buttons, the Perfect Boyfriend Card comes in all of the colors that are trending right now. For a little more texture, the Textured-Stitch Boyfriend Cardi is a similar cut, but in a rib knit with a larger weave.

Jackets

I am a believer in jackets as staple pieces of any wardrobe and Old Navy delivered in the jacket department. (Side Note: buy jackets/blazers you love and keep them. I have several jackets that are light enough to use as layering pieces that have been with me for years. Certain looks may cycle in and out of fashion a bit from year to year, but this is definitely an item worth investing in.) This Sueded-Knit Moto Jacket is on point! It is available in burgundy and mustard – Old Navy has specific names for them…that are vague and confusing.

If you are contemplating a jacket purchase, you cannot go wrong with a utility jacket. It layers beautifully with a long sleeve tee and will serve you from fall through spring. The Twill Field Jacket comes in a variety of colors as well as camo. I own 4 of this type of jacket and wear them regularly. Paired with a scarf and boots, it makes for an easy go to casual outfit.

Casual blazers are having a moment and you will be seeing them everywhere this fall and winter. I’m really excited about this look because it takes a normal layered look up a notch. If you’re a little hesitant about incorporating this into your every day look, I would steer you towards the Classic Ponte-Knit Blazer. The lines and cut will give you polish, but the fabric will feel a bit more casual. (This is the type I will be buying because I am a sucker for all things ponte.) If your style already leans a bit towards “smart casual”, then you will like the Herringbone Long-Line Blazer. This is slightly more structured and seems to hit a bit lower on the hip.
