Are wide leg pants in style for 2020? How do I wear wide leg pants? How do I style wide leg pants?
I get it. It has been all skinny, all the time, for quite a while now. Reaching the same comfort level that you have with your beloved skinnies is going to take some time. Let’s see if maybe I can help you to envision some ways to incorporate the wide leg pant trend into your wardrobe and lifestyle!
How to wear wide leg pants for work
The waist of the pant will help to determine what type of top should be worn with it. For example, these pants feature a high rise and hidden hook & zip closure. (They also come in long and short!) This will ensure a tailored and flat fit that offers the flexibility to tuck in a top or leave it untucked. Additionally, the front seam creates a more polished look when you are styling wide leg pants for work.
If you plan to wear your top untucked, it is important to opt for something that hits somewhere between the waist and just above the hip. Anything longer will run the risk of looking sloppy. This Drape Neck Blouse fits the bill. Available in grey quartz and light caper, it hits at a flattering point and will just skim the body.
If you’re a tucker (I am not) then the world is your oyster. This Shirred Neck Blouse will transition well to spring.
A wide leg pant for work is best paired with a pointed toe heel peeking out. Because of the solid coloring of both the blouse and the pants, I would choose a statement shoe. I will link a few options below, but these snake print pumps were my favorite.
How to style wide leg pants on the weekend
If you are not quite buying into the fact that wide leg pants are in style for 2020, then perhaps a more casual option might be just the thing to dip your toe in!
These pull on pants are made of a lighter weight (bit still substantial) ponte knit. I love ponte fabric because it is a polished but practical choice. The drape is wonderful, the fabric is washable and most importantly they are really comfortable pants. Working at a computer all day has made me allergic to anything with an uncomfortable waistline when sitting. These pants absolutely passed the test!
Because they will skim over the hips, I would pair them with a classic denim jacket with minimal distressing. Underneath, a cropped boxy long sleeve tee. The Luxespun collection is a favorite of mine because it is luxuriously soft and washes well. I should note that cropped shirts are everywhere this season. Before you gasp in horror, just know that “cropped” means that it will still fall below the waist of mid to high rise pants. You’re good, your midriff will not be exposed a la Brittany Spears Circa 1999.
Staying with the uber-casual nature of this look, I would choose these sneakers that manage to invoke a modern vibe while remaining a classic in your wardrobe.
