Each monthly edit features a collection of things that I have been using and loving the most throughout the past month. (More often than not, in the arena of makeup, skincare, hair and fashion.)
Despite having found a number of great full coverage foundations in the last few months, I find myself reaching for my Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation. With single digit temps outside and the furnace blasting inside, my focus has been on keeping my skin hydrated. Once I layer on all of the serums and moisturizers, I really just want something to even out my skin tone. This does the job perfectly without looking at all make-up-y. Make no mistake though, this foundation can absolutely provide medium to full coverage if you wish.
When the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Eye Shadow Palette went on sale at Macy’s earlier this month, I decided for Christmas to gift it to all of the makeup-wearing women in my life! It is the perfect neutral, matte palette. While I was at it, I added one to my collection too. I have been wearing it non-stop and love the subtle definition it gives my eyes. There are definitely hues included that can be used for a bolder look, but I’ve been relying on it for a day-to-day “no makeup, makeup” type look.
I try to highlight products each month that I haven’t yet shared with you, but a December roundup would not be complete without mention of my Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Champagne! My love affair is still going strong. If we’re being honest, it is probably teetering on an unhealthy dependency at this point. I apply this at least once a day and then a second time every night before bed. The overnight wear really seems to help keep chapped lips at bay. (Update: I just saw that Bite has released it in Maple!)
I have always remained an abashed lover of drugstore lip liner. The Wet N’ Wild Lip Liner in Brandy Wine has served me well for more years (okay decades) than I care to admit. However, I keep seeing the MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl (dirty rose) included on favorites lists around the interwebs. Given my penchant for $3 lip liner – I was struggling with the price on this one. But, while I was out Christmas Shopping one day I stumbled (obviously by no will of my own) into a Cosmetics Company Store where everything was 50% so I jumped at the chance to nab it. This color is everything. I was worried that it might read a bit bold, but it is absolute perfection. I’ve been wearing out non-stop to all of our holiday events if only under my Bite Beauty Agave Mask and the color stays put all night. After two weeks of regular wear, I haven’t had to sharpen it once! Needless to say, I am now a believer.
If you’ve been with me any period of time you have no doubt been forced to endure the tale of my growing-out-my-hair saga. (The struggle is real.) I have been lurking in beauty forums and blog post comments to find something that would provide volume at the root of my hair without leaving it oily. (For reference I have dense, fine hair that is prone to being oily. I can generally get away with washing it every other day. I actually tried for an extra day today and it is not pretty.) I noticed multiple mentions of the Bumble and bumble Bb.Thickening Spray and finally broke down during the Ulta 20% sale last month. It seems to be working well. Right off the bat I noticed a potent alcohol smell, and sure enough, after checking the ingredient list it is listed second – so not loving that. But otherwise, this is really getting the job done. It helps me to achieve a great blow out on day one and provides hold when I go in to curl it on day two.
Before I spray in the Bumble and bumble Bb.Thickening Spray I apply the Alterna Caviar CC Cream to the ends and work it up to the midshaft of my hair. I purchased a Sephora Favorites Haircare Box during the VIB Sale – this was by far the standout. It protects from heat, seals the ends and helps to prevent frizz/flyaways, all without leaving my hair weighed down.
For Christmas, my husband bought me Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish in Pray, Beet, Love as a stocking stuffer and I am hooked. This color is threatening to unseat my OPI Infinite Shine Nail Polish in Linger Over Coffee as a signature color and that does not happen easily. Click over and take a peek – it is gorgeous and will not leave my fingernails anytime soon! As a reminder, I always top coat with Essie Gel Couture Platinum Top Coat to obtain at least 7-10 days of chip-free wear.
That’s it for me – what are you loving this month? I would love to hear what you are relying on to combat the polar temperatures we’ve been seeing lately!
