The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale runs from December 26th – January 2nd and features many of the best sellers from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale as well as favorites from their best selling lines.
A friend recently mentioned that she and her husband only occasionally venture into Nordstrom after dinner at a nearby restaurant. She explained that while she was immediately drawn to many of the styles, she was put off by the high price point.
I have hear this misconception before, and I thought that this post might provide a great opportunity to showcase some affordable finds! My favorite lines at Nordstrom are actually their exclusive in house brands! Caslon, Halogen, Treasure & Bond, Leith, Chelsea 28 and Zella are among my favorites.
I always use this sale as an opportunity to stock up on sweaters. There is a slew of affordable options still available. This Caslon Cowl Neck Tunic is probably my top pick. This sweater is a workhorse. It’s lightweight, tunic length and provides effortless style. I have it in gray, black, oatmeal, blue and cranberry. Mine are 2-3 years old and still in excellent condition. They come out with a version of these every year, and they continue to be best sellers. These are easily among the most worn items in my winter wardrobe. They look great with leggings, and because of the side slit they easily front tuck if you prefer. Find the Tan, Red and Black here. It is also available in gray here.
For a slightly more casual variation, check out this turtleneck tunic. This one is in my cart! I like the more traditional turtleneck, front seam and a curved shirttail hem. (Well designed details always suck me in.) It’s currently available in four colors and stocked in all sizes!
For a similar length (aka legging friendly) but a more open neckline, try this Shirttail Tunic. It features the exposed seam with an open, but still modest, rolled edge ballet neckline, ribbed cuffs and and high/low curved hem. It comes in four colors and is still stocked in all sizes.
If you are searching for something a bit heavier, this dolman sleeve turtleneck is a good option. It features drapey dolman sleeves for a relaxed fit.
For a top with a little extra pizzazz, this dolman sleeve has snap trim detailing that is just enough embellishment to make it special.
You’ll notice that I rarely include crew necks in my round-ups. It’s because they really don’t flatter my build. If like me, you avoid crew necks, take a moment to peek at this cashmere kissed wide v-neck sweater. The quality and softness of this sweater will have you believing it is a much higher price point! It is astonishingly soft, while being lightweight. The brown shitake heather is really a beautiful hue. Also available here in burgundy.
Nordstrom also carries brands like, J. Crew, Madewell and Free People. Part of the reason that I purchase these items from Nordstrom as opposed to the brand’s website, is the free shipping and free returns that Nordstrom offers. Also, they always match the sale currently being offered by the brand so I can be assured I’m getting the lowest price. And if for some reason it is not yet price matched, I jump into a chat with customer service, give them a link to the brand or competing department store offering the lower price and they will reduce it on my order and refund my credit card the difference immediately.
This Madewell Mock Neck is a great example of this! This is such a popular piece this year for good reason! The high quality texture and ribbing elevates an otherwise basic sweater.
This J. Crew Supersoft Sweater is also marked down 40% The colors seem to be broken into three listings, found here, here and here. The crewneck version of the Supersoft Sweater can be found here, here and here.
Let’s jump to a little higher price point, but still under $100. Because, Free People. You had to know I could not do a Nordstrom sale roundup and not include Free People sweaters.
First up is my beloved Ottoman Slouchy Tunic. I have this in Ice (Super light gray) and in Mink (A Browny Pink). You will definitely want to size down. I normally wear a medium or large, I bought this in the medium. It’s still quite roomy, but remember that it is intentionally oversized. If you size down too much, you risk losing the intended look. If you know me, you have seen this sweater…likely many times this winter already. I have no shame and make no apologies. It is unique and fabulous.
*This goes in and out of stock frequently. If you see it – snap it up! I will note that the best time to check the Nordstrom sale section is early in the morning. (Super early – 5ish) This is when they seem to update their quantities and perhaps returns etc.
Next up is the Softly Structured Knit Tunic. This is my favorite turtleneck. It’s french girl chic. I push up the sleeve, wear a chunky menswear watch and let the compliments roll in. It’s long enough to wear with leggings and looks equally great front tucked with jeans or dress pants. It’s currently 40% (the lowest it will go) and well stocked in sizes and colors. This sweater is so well made that it has become the sweater to which I compare all other sweaters.
Finally, I bring you the Easy Street Tunic. This is a significantly more casual sweater, with the same design and quality of the turtleneck above. At first glance (from a distance) it drapes like a sweatshirt. There are exaggerated dolman sleeves and prominent cuffs, a chunky knit fabric, minimal side slits and what is described as a boat neck. (But is really more of a mock meets crew neck.) This is for sure, a boxy street style fit. It is not for everyone. I have the black and I pair it with faux leather leggings and my Adidas Superstars for an athleisure look that is far younger and cooler than I actually am.
