I have very strong feelings regarding what makes the perfect work from home attire. Ever since I went into business for myself full time a few years ago, I have tried to reserve Mondays for working ON my business instead of IN my business. This means that I am at home, working in my office all day. If you have made the transition to working for yourself, you know that being comfortable can be a slippery slope.
For me, the perfect happy medium is an outfit that is incredibly comfortable, temperature appropriate and not too precious. (Nothing that can be snagged easily or will require special cleaning after wearing.) Most importantly, it says “I haven’t given up completely” and can be easily elevated for an errant run to the Post Office or Target.
Shirt // This Luxespun Boxy T-Shirt is a made of a stretchy sweater soft fabric that is machine washable. I went with the large because it is a cropped fit and has 2.5 inch side vents. It feels like a sweatshirt, but looks like a lightweight knit that is perfectly appropriate for a business casual work environment.
Pants // I have waxed poetic before about these Signature Softblend Sweatpants. They have been affectionately dubbed “butter pants” by those who own and love them. To know me, is to know I hate wearing pants. The perfect pant is one that feels like no pant at all. These are no-pants pants. Stay with your true size, to avoid a legging look. In order to successfully pass these off as real pants, you want to preserve the straight leg look. They do have a drawstring waist, but I just tuck that in if I wear them out.
Bra // Although my preference is always no bra at all when I’m home, I feel a little more ready for the day when I am wearing one. This wireless bra is one of the few bralettes that I find to be comfortable for a larger chest, with just enough support. It comes with removable cups that I think increase the modesty a bit.
Sometimes, despite my best effort, I have to go in public. Keeping a few classic accessories on hand can make me look a little more pulled together in a hurry.
Earrings // These small encrusted hoops, sit close to the ear, are a classic look and are really affordable!
Sunglasses // These oversized sunglasses from Amazon are all over the interwebs with rave reviews. I don’t invest in sunglasses, so this price point is just right.
Shoes // You can go two ways here. For an athleisure, street style look, I would wear my Adidas Grand Court Sneaker. I bought these last spring and the cost per wear is down to practically nothing at this point. If you want to err on the side of looking a bit more polished, a great looking loafer would fit the bill.
